Brahmavihara-Arama: The Largest Monastery in Bali


Brahmavihara-Arama was founded around 1969 and completed in 1970.
This monastery was built on an area of ​​approximately one hectare and is being expanded for the construction of Borobudur temple in the form of a mini in the south of the monastery. Vihara which is the largest monastery in Bali is outline consists of 5 complexes namely Uposatha Gara, Dharmasala, Stupa, Tree Bodi, Kuti.

In addition, in this vihara complex there are also some Buddha statues that adorn every corner of the garden or room. Among them are two very interesting Buddha statues of Parinirwana statue and Buddha statue as Buddha. Both statues are made of bronze which is coated with gold and is a donation from Thailand and Sri Lanka around 1977.

Brahmavihara-Arama is located in Banjar Tegeha village which belongs to Banjar sub-district, Buleleng district and is about 22 km west of Singaraja or 11 km from Lovina tourist area. From the capital of Denpasar to this monastery takes approximately two hours or about 100 km, through the Denpasar-Bedugul-Singaraja highway.
Brahmavihara-Arama mulai didirikan sekitar tahun 1969 dan selesai tahun 1970. Vihara ini dibangun di atas tanah seluas lebih kurang satu hektar dan sedang diadakan perluasan untuk pembangunan candi Borobudur dalam bentuk mini di sebelah selatan vihara. Vihara ini secara garis besar terdiri dari 5 komplek yaitu Uposatha Gara, Dharmasala, Stupa, Pohon Bodi, Kuti. . Selain itu, di komplek vihara ini terdapat juga beberapa patung Buddha yang menghiasi setiap sudut taman ataupun ruangan. Di antaranya terdapat dua buah patung Buddha yang sangat menarik yaitu patung Parinirwana dan patung Buddha sebagai Buddha. Kedua patung tersebut terbuat dari perunggu yang dilapisi emas dan merupakan sumbangan dari Thailand dan Sri Lanka sekitar tahun 1977. .
